Students Ty Smith, Mackenzie Reinert, Reese Watkins, Tristan Thompson, and Kaylee Hagerman have all earned the title “Stars of the Spring” for their outstanding achievements.
Ty Smith, a senior at LHS, consistently gives his best effort in all activities, especially on the baseball field. Ty has played baseball for his entire high school career and is one of the best players on the team. Ty has been known to have a strong work ethic when it comes to practicing in the off-season. This has not only made him a great player but also a strong role model for his younger teammates. When asked what his goals for the season are, Ty stated “My personal goals are to always perform as well as I a can and to never stop that, and my goals for my team is the same thing. If everyone is performing as good as they can then we will succeed as a team.”
Mackenzie Reinert is a varsity softball player at LHS, and she has had an impressive career on the softball field throughout all of her high school career. Despite only joining the team her sophomore year, when she moved to town, she has fit right in with the team and has found her place starting at Centerfield. When asked what her favorite part about softball is, she stated “I love defense. I also love working with my teammates and doing it all but overall I think defense is my favorite part of softball.”
Tristan Thompson, a sophomore, is a player on the boy’s tennis team. Usually, Tristan plays in the number one singles spot on the varsity team. Even as a freshman, Tristan had an impressive season as he moved between number one and number two positions throughout last year’s season. When asked about what he enjoys the most about tennis, he stated “My favorite thing about tennis is the competitiveness about it. I hope that everyday I get better and if I am better than I was yesterday than everything will eventually Improve.”
Reese Watkins, a senior at LHS has been an invaluable asset to the drama club over the last two years of its return to Larned High School. She has secured one of the lead roles in almost every play-act that she has performed. She has been an amazing role model for the younger kids who watch her act in the plays, and she hopes these kids join the drama club when they get to high school. During an interview, Reese was asked what her favorite part of the drama club is, and she stated “I really enjoy all of it. I memorize lines surprisingly really well but I like to take on a role and being able to express that role in acts.”
Kaylee Hagerman, a junior at Larned High School, has had quite an impressive start to her track and field season. With a two-year state qualifier streak under her belt, she is hoping to add another trophy to her collection this year. When asked about her goals for the season, she said “My goal this season is to go to state in all four events this year.” We hope Kaylee can achieve this goal throughout her season!
