Summer 2024 was a busy and exciting summer for some students at Larned High School (LHS). For others it was a very relaxing getaway from school and a chance to start a new business or get a summer job. Many Students at LHS had sports going on this summer. There was a big variety of sports to do over this summer which includes a High School boys basketball summer program, High School girls volleyball program, a boys baseball program, girls and boys tennis program, a Strength and Conditioning program and many other fun summer sport programs.
Lauren Sleder who is a Freshman at LHS, had over the summer a very busy schedule. Over the summer she went to two basketball camps called PGC. “There at those camps I developed my skills, basketball IQ, leadership skills, and developed my mindset”, is what she had said about her experience at those camps. She goes to those camps every summer at least two times, and she said she loves it every year. Some inspiring words Lauren had said was, “Work in and out of practice and remember it’s not just your sport, it’s everything you develop along the way as a player, a leader, and most importantly a person”.
Cheerleader Serenity Perez who is a Junior at LHS, had a very busy summer! This summer she went to a UCA camp where they learned a whole routine from staff who are 18 and above. The UCA camp was from July 8th-10th. Serenity had said, “One thing I would say to someone younger than me that wants to cheer or be better at cheer would be, don’t be afraid. In life taking a step forward to learn or do something can be challenging but in the end you will be proud of yourself for doing it”. She has said that “No matter what, do what you love and never give up on yourself because in the end it’s about you mentally and physically that matters.” Be the someone who encourages others to take that step forward in life, and to be the best they can possibly be.
Over the summer some students had also started their own businesses. One student “Trista Mommens” who is a Senior at LHS had started her own crochet plushies business at the start of summer break. Trista had said “I believe anyone can truly do anything, and the best things come to you as surprises. I never knew that I was going to start a small business but it had always been something that I have wanted to do. I absolutely love the smiles and reactions people have when purchasing my items. Their happiness is 99% of why I decided to keep doing this.” She knew the hardships of opening your own business, but she took the time and dedication to make every single one of her crochet plushies.
This is just a few students here at LHS that had a very fun and exciting summer! There are so many more kids out there that did fun trips or maybe even started their own businesses.
